One of the most interesting facts about Cornwall for history lovers is that King Arthur is believed to have been born here, in Tintagel. There are many mysteries and stories surrounding his existence, one of our favorites is that he was believed to have been protected from evil by Merlin the magician who lived below the castle in a cave. Looe Island is on the east side of Cornwall and gives you a very calm and serene experience.

Of these, the highest ranked — by two flights — is Truro City F.C., who will be playing in the National League South in the 2023–24 season. As in other former mining districts of Britain, male voice choirs and brass bands, such as Brass on the Grass concerts during the summer at Constantine, are still very popular in Cornwall. Cornwall also has around 40 brass bands, including the six-times National Champions of Great Britain, Camborne Youth Band, and the bands of Lanner and St Dennis. The interior of the county consists of a roughly east–west spine of infertile and exposed upland, with a series of granite intrusions, such as Bodmin Moor, which contains the highest land within Cornwall.

Winston Graham’s series Poldark, Kate Tremayne’s Adam Loveday series, Susan Cooper’s novels Over Sea, Under Stone and Greenwitch, and Mary Wesley’s The Camomile Lawn are all set in Cornwall. Writing under the pseudonym of Alexander Kent, Douglas Reeman sets parts of his Richard Bolitho and Adam Bolitho series in the Cornwall of the late 18th and the early 19th centuries, particularly in Falmouth. The flag of CornwallSaint Piran’s Flag is the national flag and ancient banner of Cornwall, and an emblem of the Cornish people. The banner of Saint Piran is a white cross on a black background (in terms of heraldry ‘sable, a cross argent’). According to legend Saint Piran adopted these colours from seeing the white tin in the black coals and ashes during his discovery of tin.

The industry played a crucial role in shaping the region’s economy, culture, and landscape. Cornwall has a long and proud history of mining, with tin and copper being the most important minerals extracted from the ground. At the same time, the Night Riviera Sleeper Service operates nightly from London Paddington to Penzance taking around eight hours.

Once here, try your hand at riding the waves or head out to spot the seals that you can regularly see in the area. On particularly windy days, you might even get your chance to have a go at kite surfing. Now, Bodmin Moor is one of the best things to see in Cornwall if you love a good ramble and you’ll even get to scale Cornwall’s highest point too.
